This double issue of The Orthodox Word features the life and works of Metropolitan Tryphon (Turkestanov) (1861–1934), a vicar bishop of the Moscow diocese during the first third of the twentieth century. Metropolitan Tryphon has become known among English-speaking Orthodox Christians as the author of the Akathist of Thanksgiving, “Glory to God for All Things,†a wonderful liturgical work inspired by deep gratitude for God's blessings to man, including the visible creation. Of a princely heritage, he was a man of great refinement and self-sacrifice, to the point of serving as a military chaplain on the front lines of World War I. This issue contains his biography by Nun Cornelia (Rees), selections from his works, and a beautiful translation of his Akathist.
