This issue of The Orthodox Word features another translation of the Life of a New Martyr of Russia authored by Abbot Damascene (Orlovsky). New Hieromartyr Anatole was a brilliant Church historian and professor before becoming a bishop in the Kazan diocese on the eve of World War I. There, he worked tirelessly for his flock and did much for those defending their country. After the Revolution he endured arrests and exile before assuming the episcopal throne of Odessa in 1928. His final arrest and exile occurred in 1936. He endured inhuman conditions before receiving his reward from Christ in 1938.
